President William Ruto on Wednesday nominated Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku to his Cabinet.
Prior to receiving news of his nomination as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Ruku was in the company of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
The MP had accompanied the Deputy President for an inspection tour of Kanyuambora irrigation water project in Mbeere North.
Kindiki's visit was impromptu.
The Star has established that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki played a pivotal role in Ruku’s nomination.
Once vetted and approved, he will take over from Justin Muturi who has been dismissed from the Cabinet.
Ruku has been very vocal in defending the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Despite having been elected under the Democratic Party, which had written to the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) informing her of their intention to leave the Kenya Kwanza coalition, Ruku insisted that he would continue supporting the government.
The DP party in which he is a member is linked to Muturi.
Ruku has also been a great supporter of Kindiki since the former senator become the DP.
He is also one of the leaders strongly backing the DP's leadership of the Mt Kenya region, starting with Mt Kenya East.
Prior to the announcement of Ruku's nomination, analysts had described Kindiki's visit to Mbeere North as a sign of good news, coming after keeping a low profile for weeks save for state functions.
In other changes made by President William Ruto, Aden Duale was moved to man the Health docket while Debora Barasa was moved to take charge of the Environment, Climate Change and Forestry in Duale's stead.
The President also nominated Hannah Cheptumo as the CS Gender, Culture, Arts and Heritage.
