In light of its pledges to Kenyans, President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Administration is out to reaffirm its commitment to equitable development across all regions.
Government officials have in the last few months been trooping to counties taking the administration’s explainer narratives to the people outlining the administration’s efforts to ensure sustainable socio-economic development for all and pleading for a reciprocal support.
When part of the teams championing for the publics’ support of government descended into Gatundu-South Sub-county of Kiambu County recently, their message was clear, “we are here to reaffirm government’s commitment to equitable development of all regions for inclusive growth” the team declared.
Led by the cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and urban development Ms. Alice Wahome and the Government Spokesperson, Dr. Isaac Mwaura, the team was quick to dismiss claims of skewed development in favour of some regions at the expense of others.
They dismissed the accusations being leveled against the government by the opposition politicians as false and divisive. “Under President Ruto’s decisive leadership, every devolved unit gets its rightful share of the national cake,” the Government Spokesperson emphasized, adding that the government’s development agenda is anchored on fairness, inclusivity, and constitutional equity.
Kiambu County may be regarded as a testament to this commitment as the region hosts hundreds of national government projects across diverse sectors, each reflecting the administration’s effort to spur balanced regional development.
The government is driving progress in housing, roads, ICT, water, education, energy and youth empowerment among other projects distributed equitably across the county’s 12 sub-counties.
The Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development is spearheading the affordable housing projects focused on moving the less fortunate Kenyans from the informal settlements proper and descents homes.
The projects include; the 1,050 units in Ruiru town, 800 units in Limuru area and over 4, 500 units planned in Kiambu Town alongside construction of modern markets and police housing units, many of which are nearing completion. And through the Ministry of ICT and the Digital Economy, nine digital hubs have been completed in the local technical training institutions across Thika, Kiambu, Limuru, Ruiru, Lari and Kikuyu constituencies, offering young people digital skills and online job opportunities.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Roads and Transport has overseen some of the most capital-intensive projects, valued at over KSh 46.9 billion. They include the Nairobi Western Bypass which links Kiambu county to the capital being 92 percent complete, the Mau Mau Road segments which are up to 56 percent complete and numerous ongoing road upgrades across the county aimed at improving connectivity easing movement of goods and people.
Under the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, significant progress has been made in expanding water access through projects like the Gatundu Water Supply at 78 percent completion rate, Kiambu/Ruaka Works at 99 percent and the Kikuyu Water Project at 98 percent.
The Rwabura Irrigation Project is already complete and enhancing local agriculture. Other key initiatives include the LPG installation at Thika High School for the Blind under the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, construction of educational facilities at JKUAT and Gatundu University College under the Ministry of Education, and the upgrading of Karatu Ndarugu Stadium under the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Creative Arts and Sports.
The Ministry of Interior is also enhancing security through prison and probation infrastructure projects upgrade in Ruiru and Gatundu South. The Gatundu South Sensitization Forum exemplifies the government’s resolve to ensure that every region benefits from national programs — ranging from infrastructure to economic empowerment and social transformation.
The forum brought together Dr. Mwaura, CS Wahome, Principal Secretary for Health Ms. Mary Muthoni, Principal Secretary for Correctional Services Salome Beacco, Principal Secretary for Energy Alex Wachira, Principal Secretary for Sports Elijah Mwangi, Chair Athi Water, representatives from Kenya National Highways Authority and other key leaders from central region providing a platform for the residents to speak out and be heard.
The forum shed some light into the doctors’ strike that was called off following a deal between the Kiambu County Government and the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union. Principal Secretary for Health, Mary Muthoni urged residents to register with SHA emphasizing the need to incorporate the referral system.

The referral system which is a structured process to ensure patients receive the right level of care by linking all health facilities — from community units to national hospitals, allows patients to be transferred to higher-level facilities when their health needs exceed the capacity of the facility where they first seek for care.
PS Muthoni advised the residents to utilize the referral system by visiting nearby clinics for less serious health issues and leave the Level Five hospitals for advanced health concerns that require specialists.
Lack of electricity in several parts of the area was raised as a serious concern, with residents expressing frustration over frequent and prolonged power outages. They appealed for the establishment of a substation, a request to which the Principal Secretary for Energy, Mr. Alex Wachira, affirmed the government’s commitment to address.
Another concern brought up by the residents of Gatundu South Constituency was about poor roads that lacked bumps posing a serious risk to pupils and motorbike riders.
A representative from the Kenya National Highways Authority reaffirmed that the board had joined hands with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to establish walkways and standardized bumps put near schools. The CS Wahome undertook to take up with relevant authorities, the residents request for the government to compensate them for their land that was converted into government property for the establishment of an upcoming public university.
She promised to talk to the ministry of education and the land commission which is responsible for disbursing the payments. She also invited residents with any concerns pertaining land to forward their letters directly to her email under the ministry PS for Sports Elijah Mwangi also addressed the residents on matters concerning sports where he stated that the government was identifying, supporting, nurturing and developing talents.
He urged parents to support their children even as they decide to choose arts and sports in favor of STEM and Social Sciences. The PS reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to provide trained personnel to help students develop their talents.
