The EACC, the anti-graft watchdog, operates in a society ravaged, from top to bottom, by intractable corruption.
The politicians are corrupt through and through. The humble policeman will force poor matatu crew to press a Sh50 note into his hands. Even city car park marshals must squeeze cash from long-suffering motorists.
And in the event you are robbed, the investigating officer assigned to pursue the thugs must have their hands oiled. Every interview for a public job has been turned into a platform for personal enrichment without exception.
But against this grim background, the EACC can walk with its head held high because it has done a great job, under the circumstances, to tame our visionless and voracious governors.
Former governor Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu) was successfully removed and is now paying for his sins behind bars.
Former governor Okoth Obado (Migori) has had to enter an agreement to surrender property valued at hundreds of millions.
Former governor Moses Lenolkulal (Samburu) is yet another casualty of EACC’s meticulous prosecution work, not to mention police officers collecting bribes and senior bureaucrats removed from office as a result.
We appeal to the EACC that the drive and zeal with which it pursues corruption in the counties should be extended to the national government.

Quote of the day: “Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph.” —Ethopian Emperor Haile Selassie was born on July 23, 1892
