Musingu High will today intensify the hunt for a semi-final slot when they take on APE Rugunga as the East Africa Secondary School Games reach a fever pitch in the Bukedea and Mbale districts in Uganda.
Musingu coach Brendan Mwinamo has set his sights on the semis and is confident of victory against the Rwandese side. A win in the game against APE Rwanda will assure Mwinamo’s side of a semi-final slot.
“We are determined to win the game against the Rwandese side,” said Mwinamo. Musingu are so far unbeaten in the competition after winning one game and drawing the other.
National champions Highway Secondary will be up against St Joseph’s Kitale Boys in an all-Kenyan affair. Highway have won one game and lost one in the competition so far.
Musingu will wind up their Group ‘B’ games on Saturday when they face off with St Julian from Uganda while Highway will be up against Bukedea Comprehensive School. St Joseph’s Kitale will battle Ugandan powerhouses St Mary’s Kitende.
In the girls’ category, Butere Girls will clash with Alliance Secondary from Tanzania in their last Group 'B' game. Kenya’s other representatives Nyakach Girls have a herculean task against St Noah Girls from Uganda.
Nyakach will conclude their Group ‘A’ games on Saturday when they play Kawempe Muslim from Uganda while St Joseph’s Kitale will face St Noa from Uganda.
In boys’ hockey, Musingu High School and St Anthony’s Kitale have already sealed a place in the semi-finals. Musingu finished on top of the Pool ‘A’ with seven points followed by Ntare School with five.
St Anthony’s Kitale lead Pool ‘B’ with six points followed by regional champions Kakungulu Memorial also with six. St Charles Lwanga from Kenya have a chance of joining St Anthony’s Kitale if they win against Uganda’s Kyadondo.
Tigoi Girls lead the girls category with seven points after two wins and a draw. Compatriots and regional champions Nyamira Girls are second with six points while St Joseph’s Kitale Girls are third with six points.
In the basketball 3x3, Kenya’s teams are in the driving seat in the boys’ category. Sawagongo lead Pool ‘A’ with six points followed by St Joseph’s Kitale Boys with four points. In Pool ‘B’ Friends School Kamusinga lead the group within five points. In the girls’ Butere Girls lead the Pool ‘A’ with five points.
