The crucial mid-season transfer window presented clubs with a golden opportunity to refine their squads, address weaknesses and bolster their ambitions.

Mara Sugar, Mathare United, FC Talanta, Kariobangi Sharks and Shabana FC were some of the most active clubs, each making significant inbound and outbound moves.

Shabana brought in the Kariobangi Sharks’ duo of Moses Shikanda and Keith Imbali, alongside Daglas Mokaya from Bidco United. These signings are strategic, aimed at shoring up a squad that has faced its share of challenges.

However, the departure of Mathew Tegisi to Tanzania’s Pamba Jiji raises questions about the depth of their squad.

“The balance between new arrivals and performance is delicate, and we will need to integrate our new players quickly to ensure a successful second half of the season,” head coach Peter Okidi said.

Gor Mahia made headlines with high-profile signings after securing the signatures of Ugandan international Charles Bbaale from Rwanda’s Rayon Sports, Giscard Mavoungou (AS Otoho, Congo) and Patrick Essombe (Union Sportive de Douala, Cameroon).

“Additionally, the promotion of young talent Bryton Onyona from Gor Mahia Youth reflects a commitment to nurturing future stars,” said head coach Sinic Mihic.

Notably, the return of Benson Omalla from Lebanese side Al Safa adds a familiar face to the squad, enhancing their attacking options. AFC Leopards reinforced their squad with full-back Fredrick Alushula from Kariobangi Sharks.

Also rejoining the club after a loan spell with Mathare United are experienced midfielder Kevin Kimani and Christopher Koloti.

“The addition of goalkeeper James Ssetuba from Kakamega Homeboyz further strengthens our defensive lineup. These tactical acquisitions demonstrate a clear intent to solidify their position in the league and challenge for honours,” head coach Fred Ambani said.

Tusker secured Ugandan international Dennis Iguma, whose defensive experience is expected to bolster their back-line. The return of winger Luke Namanda from AFC Leopards adds depth to their attacking options.

Kenya Police FC acquired Burundian David Irishura from Messager Ngozi and Timothy Oyanda from England’s AFC Wulfrunians.

“These foreign acquisitions underscore the club’s ambition to compete at a higher level. Additionally, the signing of Mohamed Bajaber from Nairobi City Stars adds further depth to the squad. This is a strategic move to challenge for top honours,” head coach Etienne Ndayiragije said.

Beyond the high-profile signings, several clubs have focused on acquiring young, promising talent after Sharks welcomed Faiz Opande Ouma from UAE’s Elite Falcons and young midfielder Price Musebe from Green Commandos.

“This commitment to nurturing young players reflects a long-term vision aimed at building a competitive squad for the future,” head coach William Muluya said.

On the flip side, Bidco United added Henry Onyango from KCB and three players from Kariobangi Legends Youth FC. Posta Rangers have also strengthened their defensive line by signing veteran defender Musa Mohammed from Kenya Police.

While many players have moved within the FKF Premier League, some have seized opportunities abroad. Notably, Paul Jawa of Kariobangi Sharks has moved to Fleury 91 in France, while Sofapaka’s Ronald Ssempala has joined Kabwe Warriors in Zambia.
