Over 200 golfers converge at the 18-hole Vetlab Sports Club on Saturday for the 25th leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour.

The top team from this weekend’s action will join the 35 others who have already booked their slots in the tour’s grand finale on December 5 at a yet-to-be-determined venue.

Vetlab Sports Club captain Eric Karuga said: “We are eager to take on the course this weekend for the KCB Golf Tournament. Our course is in its absolute best condition and our green master has been working extremely hard to ensure that we are ready to host an event of this magnitude. As a club, we are grateful for the opportunity to always be part of this regional event that has played a crucial role in fostering a golfing culture in Kenya and beyond.”

Recently, at Limuru Country Club, two teams qualified for the grand finale. The qualifiers included Kim Kimura, Francis Kimani, Joseph Ikanyi, Paul Kahura, Hakeem Mutungi, Njoroge Munyua, Jim Gathuna, and Joseph Kung’u.

KCB Group Director of Marketing and Communications Rosalind Gichuru expects tough competition as the series enters the home straight.

“We are approaching the grand finale and the competition is getting tougher as everyone wishes to be part of the amateur event in December. Our focus is to keep elevating this game to an elite level, democratise it and foster regional unity in line with our brand purpose — For People. For Better,” said Gichuru.

Regionally, the series has traversed Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda. This highlights KCB’s commitment to the growth of the sport in East Africa. The tour has impacted over 2,000 junior players through clinics that run concurrently with the amateur tournaments.

Having held caddie tournaments in Nakuru and Nyeri counties, KCB will host caddie events at Vetlab on Monday and Migaa Golf Course next month, to make this year’s edition inclusive.
