Online gaming firm SportPesa has sealed a 10-year partnership worth Sh1.12 billion with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to sponsor the Kenyan Premier League.

The deal signed at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi on July 31, 2025, gives Sportpesa the exclusive title rights to Kenya’s top-tier football league.

SportPesa, who are also the shirt sponsors of perennial champions Gor Mahia,  Shabana  FC and Murunga Seals, are making a return to the Kenyan Premier League, having previously sponsored the league from July 2015 to November 2019.

The sponsorships were previously withdrawn after former President Uhuru Kenyatta signed the Finance Bill 2017 into law, imposing a uniform 35% tax rate on all gambling revenue—betting, gaming, lotteries, and prize competitions.

SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri said he was delighted to be the KPL title sponsors again as they continue the journey to restore the glory days in Kenyan football.

“We are thrilled to announce our partnership with the Football Kenya Federation, building on the success we achieved together in the past. Football in Kenya can reclaim its lost glory, and we are starting this journey today. I personally believe some of our top talents across various sporting disciplines are part of Kenya’s exports to the world,” said Karauri.

Some 60 per cent of the sponsorship will go directly to the clubs in the FKF Premier League as grants, while 40 per cent  has been allocated to administrative and competition operational costs.

The journey kicks off with Sh85 million for the upcoming 2025/2026, with SportPesa set to unveil all the specific details in a special launch later.

Karauri said they are in the rebuilding phase, and they have a strong belief in winning partnerships, and they will not walk this journey alone.

“This is a leap of faith we have taken as a company. It is also a rallying call for other corporates to join us and collectively achieve the dreams we yearn for. We wish you all the best as Kenya comes together to rally behind the Harambee Stars as they compete in the CHAN tournament," he said.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed thanked their partners for the deal. Hussein reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the confidence placed within their hands as they look forward towards a long-lasting partnership with SportPesa.

“A transformative chapter begins for Kenyan football. We extend our gratitude to SportPesa for their belief in our vision through this partnership. After enduring challenges in attracting the private sector, FKF sees this partnership as a crucial advancement in attracting more collaborations," Hussein said.
