Over 250 golfers are set to descend on the Nyeri Golf Course this weekend for the 19th leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour, with coveted slots to December’s grand finale firmly on the line.
Action tees off with the morning round at 6:30 am before resuming at 12:30 pm for the afternoon session, promising a full day of competitive play.
Nyeri Golf Club Captain Jacob Nyaga assured participants that the course is in immaculate shape ahead of the showdown.
“Our course is in pristine condition. Nyeri has become a hub for key golf events in the region," Nyaga said.
He noted that they expect a competitive event owing to the Tour's stature.
"The KCB Golf Series attracts a large number of participants so we can expect a good outing this weekend. It will be competitive, fun and interactive."
The Tour, which has already traversed more than 10 counties in Kenya and expanded into Burundi and Uganda, has drawn over 2,000 golfers to date while nurturing the next generation through junior clinics that have impacted more than 1,000 youngsters.
KCB Group Director of Marketing and Communications, Rosalind Gichuru, highlighted the bank’s strong bond with the Nyeri golfing community.
“Nyeri is always home to us. For the third consecutive year, our series is being held at this esteemed club, showcasing the amazing relationship we share," she said.
Echoing Nyaga’s sentiments, Gichuru projected a lively weekend on the greens.
"We expect a huge turnout on Saturday through to Monday, when we will also host the caddie tournament.”
Sunday will see over 100 juniors take part in a golf clinic, giving budding talents a chance to sharpen their skills before joining a tree-planting exercise in the afternoon.
The action will roll into Monday with more than 120 caddies expected to feature in a tournament, building on the success of a similar event recently staged in Nakuru.
