Over 270 golfers are set to descend on the lush par-73 Ruiru Sports Club this weekend for the annual Legendary golf tournament, an event that has quickly become a highlight on the amateur golfing calendar.
The tournament will draw players from across the country and will culminate in a glamorous prize-giving ceremony, complete with live band entertainment to cap off the spectacle.
Ruiru Sports Club is steadily carving out its reputation as a premier hub for corporate and social tournaments.
Club captain Justus Mathenge confirmed the course is in pristine condition and primed to test the country’s finest.
"Our course is in excellent condition, providing the perfect stage for talent to shine,” Mathenge noted.
He highlighted the significance of hosting the event at Ruiru, noting its growing stature in the golfing scene.
“We are excited to welcome some of golf’s leading figures to Ruiru for the Legendary Golf Day."
"This collaboration with top corporate partners allows us to offer a memorable experience, with attractive prizes up for grabs," he added.
Action is expected to tee off as early as 6:40 am on the 18-hole course, with the afternoon wave set to start from 10:50 am.
The tournament has also received a significant boost from headline sponsors, including First Assurance and Kingdom Bank.
Among the standout contenders is defending champion James Njogu, who will be keen to retain his crown after a stellar run last year.
Njogu reiterated his readiness to stamp his authority on the Ruiru course.
“My swing is in perfect condition and I feel ready to defend the title,” he stated.
Also in the mix is in-form Grace Miano, fresh from clinching the overall ladies’ title at September Pendant Golf with an impressive net score of 70.
Miano noted that her recent success will fuel her hunger for glory this weekend.
“Building on my recent success against the country’s best amateurs, I’m eager to compete in what promises to be a highly competitive tournament," Miano said.
She further exuded confidence about her current form.
"My form and confidence are strong, and I’m aiming to make a mark from the very start,” she added.
Adding firepower to the field are long-hitting single handicapper John Mburu and Nathaniel Nguithi.
