The award, presented during the AidEx Humanitarian and Development Summit held at Palexpo in Geneva, Switzerland, honours individuals who demonstrate exceptional courage, innovation and leadership in improving lives under extreme conditions.
Kupi was recognised for his lifelong commitment to saving lives and fostering peace among fragile coastal and border communities in Kenya and Somalia.
His initiatives have focused on disaster risk reduction, environmental protection and youth empowerment, directly supporting thousands affected by floods, cyclones and conflict-driven displacement.
For more than a decade, Kupi has led programmes equipping vulnerable coastal populations with early warning systems, maritime rescue training and peacebuilding tools, helping communities withstand disasters and build resilience.
AidEx organisers praised his dedication, saying, “Kupi has shown extraordinary courage and leadership in protecting lives and restoring peace across Kenya's coastal counties and the Kenya-Somalia border. While accepting the honour, Kupi dedicated the award to his fellow humanitarians.
“This award belongs to the brave men and women who have chosen service over fear and compassion over comfort. It inspires me to do even more, not only in Kenya but wherever humanity calls,” he said.
Kupi’s recognition adds to a growing list of global and national accolades, including the Sasakawa UNDRR Award 2025, National Hero of Kenya (2023), and the IMRF Individual Contribution Award 2024 for excellence in maritime rescue operations.
