Police in Mukaa Sub County have launched a manhunt for a suspect who killed a man and seriously injured a 24-year-old woman on Monday night.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. at Muani Village in Wathini Sub-location.
The woman, identified as Naomi Mwati, and her father, Joseph Mwati Musyimi, sustained deep cuts to their hands and heads after being attacked with a machete by the suspect, Michael Mulwa.
Confirming the incident to KNA by phone, Mukaa Sub County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Buxton Mayabi said the victims were initially taken to a local dispensary before being referred to Sultan Hamud Sub County Hospital for further treatment.
"The girl was returning home in the company of her boyfriend when they were confronted by her former boyfriend, who attacked them. The man was fatally injured," said Mayabi.
"The girl was slashed on the hands and head with a machete and suffered deep wounds."
Mayabi added that the girl’s father, who lives nearby, heard the commotion and came out to check what was happening.
"Mulwa, the suspect, then turned on him and inflicted deep cuts on his hand and head," he said.
The DCC noted that the girl was rescued by passers-by. He confirmed that the suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack and remains at large.
“The police will do everything possible to arrest the culprit,” he assured.
The body of the deceased was moved to the hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
