Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka says the upcoming Mumbuni ward by-election in Machakos county is a litmus test for his 2027 presidential bid.

Kalonzo urged the electorate to vote on November 27, 2025 vote for Wiper candidate Anthony Kisoi as the Mumbuni North MCA. He said this would prove to Kenyans across the country that he, Kalonzo, can consolidate the Kamba votes.

The seat being contested for was declared vacant following the former MCA Gideon Kavuu’s demise.

“I plead with you to vote for the Wiper candidate because if we don't, even Kenyan's will start asking, ' How can the Wiper party that can’t win an MCA seat take over Kenya’s presidency?” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo addressed the Mumbuni North residents on Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s mobile phone on Thursday.

Ndeti, who talked to the Wiper leader on speaker, led a host of Wiper leaders in officially unveiling Kisoi as the Wiper party’s candidate in the by-election.

Kalonzo continued, “Are you all ready? If you do that, I will come and slaughter a bull to celebrate. November 25th is the by-election. Will you vote for Wiper? Are you with Kalonzo? Are you with kalonzo? Let’s stand firm.”

The residents responded to Kalonzo’s questions in the affirmative.

“We need to stand more and more firm and be the hardest in our stance so that we can get the leadership of this country. Are you ready?” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo urged all leaders elected on the Wiper ticket to join the campaigns in support of the party’s candidate ahead of the by-election.

“So, I ask all of you to work as a team; Wiper MPs, governors, deputy governors, and all sitting MCAs so that we can win that seat as Wiper. Are you ready? You all know even the deceased was first elected in a Wiper ticket,” Kalonzo said.

Ndeti affirmed that as a community, they were firmly behind Kalonzo as their party leader and the Ukambani political kingpin.

“We will vote for Anthony Kisoi. I’m asking all those others, who are in other political parties, Why are you betraying the Kamba community?” Ndeti poised.

The Machakos boss continued, “Our kingpin has spoken and said we vote for our son Anthony Kisoi because he's younger and energetic than those others.

Kisoi has a good heart. I have done my research and established that he has been helping women, widows, and children. He's just like me, your governor,” Ndeti said.

‎The Wiper Patriotic Front turned the by-election into a show of strength for Kalonzo as the 2027 presidential race begins to take shape.

‎Ndeti said the contest was not just about the ward seat, but about Kalonzo’s growing political influence in the region and across the country.

‎She described the vote as a “definitive moment” for the Wiper leader, urging residents to turn out in large numbers and “send a strong message of confidence” in Kalonzo’s 2027 presidential bid.

‎Her deputy, Francis Mwangangi, said the race was shaping up as a direct contest between Wiper and Maendeleo Chap Chap.

Mwangangi said Wiper represents the pride and progress of the Kamba community, while Chap Chap symbolizes the forces Kalonzo intends to challenge nationally.

‎Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu, Woman Representative Joyce Kamene, MPs Thaddeus Nzambia (Kibwezi), and Bony Mwalika, also called on voters to deliver victory to the Wiper Party, describing it as a key test for Kalonzo’s political base.

‎“This seat is not just for Kisoi, it is for Wiper, and we must deliver it at all costs,” Kavindu said.

‎The rally also drew leaders from outside the Ukambani region.

‎Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa told the electorate that the opposition was closely watching developments in Kalonzo’s backyard.

‎Thang’wa said he had been sent by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to plead with the locals not to “embarrass Kalonzo” in the by-election.

‎The Mumbuni North seat fell vacant two years ago following the death of Gideon Kavuu of the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party.

‎Wiper’s Anthony Kisoi will now face Harrison Wambua of Maendeleo Chap Chap, Misi Mutua of UDA, and Mutisya wa Ngai of the National Liberation Party in what is expected to be a hotly contested race.
