Governor George Natembeya speaking in Kitale

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya hosted a delegation of elders from the Kikuyu community just a few days after an engagement with elders from Vihiga county.

In a statement, Natembeya said the elders had travelled from Mt Kenya to retrace the relationship between the Mulembe nation and the mountain region.

“It was indeed a great honour hosting the Kikuyu council of elders, who are true cousins with whom we have united to make Kenya better," he said.

Natembeya received the elders at the Ndura Park in Trans Nzoia where their discussions were centred on peace, development and national politics ahead of the elections.

He noted that the visit was a historic path rooted in unity, dialogue and national reconciliation, adding that such cross-cultural exchanges offer much-needed balm for a country still bearing the scars of division.

"I wish to thank our elders for seeking unity in diversity and building bridges of friendship and brotherhood across cultures, communities, religions and regions to enhance our national cohesion and integration,” the governor said.

He added that the elders from Mt Kenya and those from Western Kenya were retracing the journey of unity that was once championed by the late President Mwai Kibaki and the late Vice President Kijana Wamalwa.

The two leaders had steered Kenya into a new era of inclusion and progress that momentarily healed historical wounds.

“The late Kibaki and Wamalwa turned our country into a true Rainbow Nation under the National Rainbow Coalition,” Natembeya said.

A goat was slaughtered and served to the guests, with Natembeya noting that the meeting was not purely ceremonial, but also served as a moment of shared reflection on how the Mulembe nation is steadily redefining its socio-economic-political identity.

Elders from Mt Elgon will also visit their Mt Kenya counterparts to “make the river return to its course”, Natembeya said, adding that it was a timely call for the country to retrace its steps back to harmony and people-centred leadership.

Mount Kenya young turks Mungai Karumba (Kiambaa) and Kimani Wanjiku (Kikuyu) lauded the governor for his steadfastness and urged Gen Z to register en masse as voters in a bid to send the Kenya Kwanza administration home during the 2027 elections.

The meeting was attended by Kikuyu council of elders chairman Kitale chapter Ndura Koimburi, the Luhya council of elders, clergy and members of the professional caucus.

The elders acknowledged the governor as a fearless, truthful and dependable politician who—if given support—will steer the country back to greatness.
