The man suspected of spearing and killing a General Service Unit (GSU) officer at State House has been arraigned before the Kibera Law Courts, drawing attention to his physical condition as much as the charges he faces.
The suspect, dressed in a white hoodie and brown trousers, appeared frail and was visibly limping as he was escorted to the courtroom.
One of his legs was bare, lacking both a shoe and a sock, while he leaned heavily on the other for support.
He was escorted from a waiting vehicle by two security agents, who aided him as he struggled to walk across the courtroom.
The suspect, identified as Kithuka Kimunyi, 56, was arrested at the scene on Monday.
In the shocking incident, the man attacked and killed the armed officer manning State House, Nairobi.
He used a spear to commit the act outside Gate D, which is usually used by the public to access the State House.
The spear landed on the left side of the chest, killing him.
The motive of the about 11 am incident was not immediately established.
The officer attached to the General Service Unit’s G Company was pronounced dead on arrival at the Kenyatta National Hospital. He had bled profusely by the time he arrived at the hospital, officials said.
The assailant was arrested at the scene and taken for grilling amid panic. It is not clear if the assailant knew the slain officer.
Police have revealed that the man who speared a GSU officer to death outside State House Monday claims to have been sent by Satan to attack the officer.
“This man claims he was sent by Satan to attack the police officer. He killed him, and he is lucky to be alive himself,” said an officer aware of the developments.
The suspect told police he walked to the area as directed by Satan.
The area where the attack took place is usually a security clearing zone before motorists and pedestrians drive and walk to the State House, respectively.
