Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Monday hosted at least 5,000 women from Meru County at his Irunduni home in Tharaka Nithi County.

Speaking during the meeting, Kindiki said the government recognizes the power of women in transforming the country’s economic state.

He said the government is constructing at least 21 fresh produce markets in Meru County, out of a total of 400 being built across the country.

The DP noted that women running nano, micro, and small enterprises will benefit from the 21 new modern markets being established in all constituencies within the county.

In his address, Kindiki also encouraged the women to form, register, and formalize their businesses in groups to enhance their access to government funds such as the Women Enterprise Fund, Youth Enterprise Fund, Uwezo Fund, NYOTA, and other development funds.

He further urged the women to register for SHA coverage to cushion themselves against high medical expenses.
