President William Ruto has mourned the passing of Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve, describing him as a bold and enterprising leader who served the people of Kariobangi North with dedication.
In a statement issued on Monday, President Ruto praised Munuve’s leadership style and the impact he had on his constituents.
“Mheshimiwa Joel Munuve was a bold, vocal and enterprising leader who served the people of Kariobangi North with focus and dedication,” said the President.
Ruto described Munuve as a progressive leader with innovative ideas.
“He was hardworking, progressive and with fresh ideas that changed the lives of many people,” he said.
The Head of State extended his condolences to Munuve’s family, the people of Kariobangi North and members of the Nairobi County Assembly.
“We pray for the family, the people of Kariobangi North and the Nairobi County Assembly at this moment,” Ruto said.
During his tenure, he championed youth and women’s programs and pushed for better service delivery in the informal settlements of Kariobangi North.
Local leaders have often credited him with initiating projects aimed at improving access to education, clean water and healthcare in the area.
Munuve died on Tuesday morning.
Nairobi County Assembly Speaker, Kennedy Ngondi, said Munuve was headed to the office in the CBD when he developed chest pains.
“He was rushed to the hospital where he died,” he said.
Ngondi said the body was moved to Lee Funeral Home pending autopsy.
He described him as a hard-working MCA who had his people at heart.
“The leadership of the County Assembly of Nairobi is deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing of one of our members, Joel Munuve, who is the elected member up to date for Kariobangi North ward,” the speaker said.
“He suddenly collapsed and passed away earlier today. Munuve was a dedicated leader, a tireless servant of the people and a passionate voice in the assembly."
Ngondi said Munuve’s relentless commitment to the people of Kariobangi North and the greater ideals of public service will be remembered with immense respect and admiration.
He said Munuve was not only a colleague but a brother whose presence and insights uplifted many.
“His sudden demise is a profound loss to his family, his constituents and the entire Nairobi City county government. On behalf of the county assembly of Nairobi and on my behalf as the speaker, we convey our deepest condolences to the family, friends and constituents of Munuve," the Speaker said.
