Machogu, who was forced out of office following the Gen Z protests in 2024 and replaced by fellow Kisii native Julius Migosi, urged the community to be alert to the country's evolving political direction.
Speaking in veiled terms, Machogu hinted at a possible alliance between the Kikuyu and Omogusii communities ahead of the 2027 polls.
To reinforce his message, Machogu urged the Omogusii
community to ensure that every eligible Kenyan aged 18 and above registers to
vote.
“You know where the Omogusii is headed. I was in Kikuyuland the other day. Do you want me to tell you the secret of the Kikuyu? They love us very much. I think you understand what I mean when I say they love us. But let us all register as voters,” Machogu said.
In an undated video widely circulated online, Machogu—speaking at a
funeral—called on the Omogusii to remain sharp, united, and focused.
Responding to differing views within the community regarding 2027, he emphasised tolerance but warned that those opposing the community’s direction would face consequences at the ballot box.
“Let’s love one another. As for those young men making noise to the contrary, just let them be. When the time comes, they’ll receive strokes of the cane,” he said, referring metaphorically to being voted out in 2027.
This marks Machogu’s first public commentary on national politics since his dismissal from the Cabinet in July 2024.
The former Nyaribari Masaba MP and UDA’s 2022 Kisii gubernatorial candidate has maintained a low profile since his exit from government, avoiding political discourse until now.
Machogu’s remarks—though subtle—may suggest support for former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who is reportedly working closely with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Matiang’i’s 2027 presidential bid has sparked political realignments in the Gusii region, with a majority of local leaders backing him over President William Ruto.
His homecoming on May 2, 2025, reaffirmed the region’s support as he continues to consult widely with like-minded politicians in search of a winning formula.
Those opposed to Matiang'i in Gusii are led by National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro(South Mugirango) and UDA National Treasurer Japhet Nyakundi(Kitutu Chache North).
