Two KDF officers killed in Kwale plane crash

At least two members of the Kenya Defence Forces were killed on Saturday, June 14, in a plane crash in Ndavaya, Kinango area in Kwale County.

The crash involved a Kenya Air Force fixed-wing plane.

The cause of the accident is yet to be known.

The plane with registration KAF 718 crashed, killing all on board, witnesses said.

According to flight records, the ill-fated aircraft departed Mombasa at 11:39 am and was last seen near Diani before disappearing from radar.

It crashed at approximately 12:06 pm, about 27 minutes after takeoff.

Emergency response teams, including KAF crash investigators, were swiftly deployed to the scene for search and recovery operations.

Police arrived and secured the scene pending investigations. 

In a statement on its Facebook account, the Kenya Defence Forces confirmed the crash.

"Earlier today, 14th June 2025, a Kenya Air Force Grob 120A aircraft experienced an emergency while on a training flight in the general area of Mwakijembe Primary School, Ndavaya, Kwale County," KDF said.

"On Board were two pilots. Recovery is ongoing."
