The matter of Albert Ojwang’s death should not be used as an excuse to incite Kenyans for political expediency.
Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wesley Rotich said it was unfortunate that some opposition politicians are using the death of Ojwang to profile certain communities in a desperate attempt to react to violence.
Rotich said already the murder incident was being investigated by the various arms, and arrests have even been made, adding that the relevant authorities should be given ample time to undertake thorough investigations and reveal exactly what led to Ojwang’s death.
The governor took issue with opposition politicians who have used the incident to profile some communities.
“We as a community will not be drawn to the cheap attempts, we are past violence, and those trying to draw us to conflict will be disappointed because we will not walk that path,” Rotich said.
Speaking in Riwo village, Baringo county, during the funeral of a local farmer Mark Rono, Governor Rotich called on Kenyans to jealously guard the prevailing peace in the country.
“Some people don’t realise the benefits of living in a peaceful environment, it's not until you lose it that you will know how important peace is," he said.
"Those of us living in the Kerio Valley characterised by insecurity, understand fully well what it means not knowing shots will be fired."
