Interior PS Raymond Omollo on Saturday toured key infrastructure projects in Kitui County ahead of the October 20 Mashujaa Day celebrations.

Omollo inspected ongoing works at Ithookwe Stadium, the designated venue for the national celebrations, and other supporting facilities to assess their readiness for the event.

He assured residents that the stadium would be completed on time, noting it is designed to accommodate up to 10,000 people.

“We are confident the stadium will be ready for Mashujaa Day. This project symbolises the government’s commitment to inclusivity and national unity,” Omollo said.

Once complete, Ithookwe Stadium will be among the largest venues in the region, highlighting the government’s focus on equitable development.

Omollo also visited the construction site of a new mini State Lodge in Kitui town, intended to host visiting dignitaries, and inspected upgrades at the Ithookwe Airstrip, which will improve regional transport connectivity.

In addition, PS Omollo reviewed a series of roadworks around Kitui, part of an ambitious infrastructure programme aimed at improving accessibility and boosting preparedness for major events.

“These three major projects – the stadium, the mini State Lodge, and the airstrip – are not just for Mashujaa Day; they are investments in the long-term growth and visibility of Kitui county,” Omollo said.

He stressed the importance of equitable development across all regions, adding, “We want every part of the country to feel the impact of government projects. No region should be left behind.”

Officials say the projects will boost the local economy, enhance transport links, and increase Kitui’s capacity to host national and regional events.

The improved infrastructure is expected to leave a lasting legacy beyond the celebrations, driving sustained development in the area.

Omollo’s visit comes as national and county governments intensify preparations for the first-ever Mashujaa Day celebrations to be held in Kitui county— a milestone aimed at showcasing the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and regional development
