The Karen Hospital has raised the alarm over fraudulent online content falsely linking its founder, Dr Dan Gikonyo, to unauthorised product endorsements.
In a press statement dated August 1, the hospital said, “It has come to our attention that a series of misleading online videos and advertisements are circulating, falsely claiming that our founder, Dr. Dan Gikonyo, has endorsed certain products, including pain gels and other medications for various conditions.”
The hospital distanced itself and its founder from the claims, stating, “We wish to state that Dr Gikonyo has not endorsed any such products, and these videos and posts are fraudulent. They are being used by unscrupulous individuals with the intent to deceive and exploit the public.”
The statement affirmed that both Dr Gikonyo and The Karen Hospital are not affiliated in any way with the products or individuals behind the promotions.
Unscrupulous traders resort to unapproved product endorsements to exploit the credibility and influence of respected individuals or institutions.
By falsely linking products to trusted names, they aim to deceive consumers, boost sales, and bypass regulatory scrutiny.
This unethical practice often targets vulnerable audiences and undermines public trust in genuine medical or professional endorsements.
Such acts are considered fraudulent and can be actionable in court for libel.
The Karen Hospital advised the public to refrain from engaging with or purchasing any items advertised under false claims.
“All official communications and endorsements from The Karen Hospital or any of our doctors are issued through our verified channels. If in doubt, please verify with us directly before taking any action,” the statement added.
For clarification or to report suspicious content, the hospital urged members of the public to reach out through its official communication lines.
The statement was signed by Chief Executive Officer Juliet Nyaga, who reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment “to providing accurate information and trusted care.”
