The National Youth Service will on Friday host a career open day at its Ruaraka campus off Thika Road, offering a mix of career guidance, coaching, and direct job opportunities for young people.
NYS is a government agency focused on training and developing young people.
It aims to instil discipline, patriotism and a sense of civic responsibility, while also providing vocational and technical skills training to enhance their employability.
The agency has invited graduates and alumni to register via a link shared on its social media platforms to participate in the event.
The career fair will feature hands-on workshops, practical CV writing tips, and face-to-face interviews with potential employers.
“We are talking hands-on workshops, CV tips that work, and direct access to recruiters who are ready to hire,” NYS said in a social media post, urging youth not to miss out on the opportunity.
Employers will be conducting on-site interviews for both overseas and domestic positions.
All international vacancies are based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and include openings for steel fixers, shuttering carpenters, block masons, helpers, security guards, and cleaners.
Local job opportunities will be available in sales and marketing, taxi driving, personal assistance, and road construction—covering roles such as operators, plumbers, and masons.
NYS noted that more positions may be added as discussions with other employers are finalised.
The recruitment drive is part of broader government initiatives championed by President William Ruto to create employment for young people, whom he calls Kenya’s “greatest asset.”
Speaking on Tuesday during the International Youth Day forum at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology in Kakamega, the President cited programmes such as the Affordable Housing initiative, labour mobility abroad, digital hubs, and ClimateWorx as examples of bold, strategic measures aimed at expanding opportunities for youth.
“Additionally, through business support and mentorship, including financial literacy training, affordable credit and grants, and government procurement opportunities reserved for the youth, we are nurturing successful youth-run businesses,” Ruto said.
