In Summary

Senators on Friday retreated into an in-camera session to deliberate on the impeachment motion against Kericho Governor Erick Mutai.

Speaker Amason Kingi ordered the chamber cleared of all parties, including members of the public and the media, in line with Rule 27 of the Senate’s rules of procedure.

“Honourable senators, having concluded the closing remarks by the parties, the Senate will now proceed into a camera session for 15 minutes pursuant to Rule 27,” Kingi announced.

He explained that the closed-door deliberations were necessary to ensure the process was concluded seamlessly, conscientiously, and in accordance with the Constitution, the County Governments Act, and the Senate Standing Orders.

As required by parliamentary procedure, all broadcasting from the chamber was suspended during the session.

The Senate is expected to return to open session to determine whether to uphold or reject the impeachment of Governor Mutai, following accusations brought against him by the Kericho County Assembly.
