Naitobi County Woman Representative Esther Passaris has expressed her grief following the killing of City lawyer Kyalo Mbobu.
Motorcycle assailants shot the prominent lawyer dead on Tuesday evening at around 5.40 pm in Karen as he was headed home.
Through her X platform on Wednesday, Passaris described the killing as both tragic and senseless.
“I am disheartened by the tragic and senseless killing of Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, gunned down by motorcycle assailants in Karen this evening,” Passaris said.
Mbobu, a respected legal practitioner, previously served as the Chairperson of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal.
Passaris noted that the murder was not only a personal tragedy but also a direct attack on justice.
“Wakili Mbobu was a respected legal mind and former Chairperson of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal. His brutal murder is a grave affront to justice and must be condemned in the strongest terms,” she said.
She therefore urged security agencies to prioritise investigations into the attack and ensure those responsible are swiftly apprehended.
“I urge the relevant authorities to expedite investigations and ensure the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended and brought to book. Justice must prevail,” she added.
Passaris concluded her tribute with a message of respect for the late lawyer, saying, “Rest in Peace, Wakili.”
The late Mbobu’s professional contributions extended beyond his tribunal role as he was also known for his firm stance on the rule of law and his dedication to upholding justice in Kenya.
The prominent lawyer’s death has drawn widespread condemnation and calls for swift justice.
According to police, he was trailed by two men on motorcycles who opened fire on his vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Reports on how many times he was shot remain conflicting, though police confirmed he was hit multiple times.
Following the shooting, detectives processed the scene and moved his body to the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
His vehicle was later towed to Lang’ata Police Station as investigations got underway.
Police have not yet established the motive behind the shooting or identified the gunmen.
