

Police in Murang’a County are investigating the death of a 20-year-old man who was found hanging in his home on Tuesday evening.
Assistant Chief Simion Mwangi reported the incident from Kagioni village, Kanjama Sub-Location in Mathioya Sub-County at around 8 pm Officers from Kiriaini Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mathioya visited the scene.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Zachary Wachangi, “had a mental problem.”
Earlier in the day, Wachangi shared lunch with his mother, Anastacia Wamboi, and his cousin, Julia Muthoni, before going to his house.
“At around 1700hrs today his cousin went to check on him at his house only to find him having hanged himself using a rope on the truss of the roof of the house,” the report stated.
The body showed no signs of struggle. Officers processed the scene and moved it to Kiriaini Mission Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
Authorities have opened an investigation and urged residents to remain vigilant and offer support to those struggling with mental health challenges as the community mourns the sudden loss.
In a similar incident, police in Meru County are investigating a suspected suicide after a 37-year-old man was found dead on Tuesday morning.
According to a report from Tigania Police Station, Assistant Chief Regina Kathambi of Muili Sub-Location alerted officers at 10 a.m. about the incident at Muili village, Nchooro Sub-Location.
Police and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Tigania West, visited the scene and identified the deceased as Taratisius Thiaine Kobia. He was “found dangling on a tree with a sisal rope tied around his neck.”
Investigators said Kobia had travelled from Nairobi on September 11 to attend a burial at Athwana Location. Since then, he had been staying at his home in Antubathama village, Muili Sub-Location.
The report noted that the body had “no visible injuries, no suicide note found and motive not known.”
Officers processed the scene and moved the body to Miathene Sub-County Hospital mortuary for an autopsy. The case remains “pending under investigation,” with DCI Tigania West leading inquiries.
Authorities have urged residents to stay alert to signs of distress among family and friends as the community grapples with the sudden loss.
