A woman died on Wednesday in a road traffic accident along the Devki–Makadara Road in Athi River, Machakos County.

Police identified the deceased as Joyline Jemaiyo Kipkorir, 30, who was a passenger on a motorcycle when the crash occurred near Pepe stage.

According to police, the motorcycle was being ridden by Nelson Okanzi Mamain, 30, when it collided with a trailer at about 6.10 pm. The incident was reported at the Athi River Police Station an hour later.

A police source, who requested anonymity as they are not authorised to speak to the media, said the motorcycle attempted to overtake the trailer on the left side of the road but hit a bump.

Kipkorir was thrown off and fell under the trailer, which ran over her. She died on the spot.

Officers from Athi River Police Station documented the scene before moving the body to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary, where it awaits postmortem. Both vehicles were taken to the station for inspection.

Mob attack leaves two injured in Athi River

Elsewhere in Athi River Sub-County, two men were seriously injured after being attacked by a mob in Katani location on Wednesday.

Police said the incident was reported at Mavoko Police Station at 3.00 pm as a case of mob injustice.

A village elder reported that the two men, who were riding a blue Honda motorcycle, were confronted by members of the public after suspicions of wrongdoing.

Police said the suspects sustained multiple injuries after being assaulted with crude weapons. Officers who responded to the scene found them alive but unable to speak. They were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment.

The motorcycle was detained at the police station pending investigations.

Police said they have launched investigations into both incidents.
