Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua hosts young leaders
from Kirinyaga County at his Wamunyoro Residence on Sunday/HANDOUTFormer Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has described
Kenya’s youthful population as the country’s greatest asset.
Gachagua said the nation must recognize the immense
potential of young people and prioritize investments in their development.
“Our country’s greatest asset lies in our youthful
population. With a significant proportion of our citizens being young people,
it is imperative that we recognize their immense potential and prioritize
strategic investments in their development,” he said on X.
The former DP spoke after hosting young leaders from
Kirinyaga County at his Wamunyoro Residence on Sunday.
He praised the youth for their vibrant energy, fresh
insights and commitment to driving positive change.
This a continuation of the many meetings Gachagua has been
holding with leaders and various groups of people even as he prepares to throw
himself into the race for presidency in 2027.
The meetings are also seen by analysts as his way of
countering President William Ruto’s meetings with delegations from across
different parts of the country ahead of 2027.
Last week, Gachagua met Members of County Assembly (MCAs)
from Murang’a as Ruto hosted grassroots leaders from the county at State House,
Nairobi.
Gachagua who is working with other Opposition leaders
including Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), former Interior CS Fred Matiangí, Eugene Wamalwa
(DAP-K), and Martha Karua among others under the United Opposition umbrella
also had a one month tour of the United States, where he met and sought support
from various groups of Kenyans living there.
He visited a number of states to sell his agenda to Kenyans
in Diaspora.
The former DP and other opposition allied leaders have
previously discussed backing a single candidate to vie against President Ruto.
