Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i held a consultative meeting with a section of Jubilee Party leaders on Tuesday as part of his broader strategy to consolidate political support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The closed-door session, described as strategic and issue-driven, focused on party coordination, national unity, and the formation of a credible political platform to challenge for the presidency.
The meeting is part of an ongoing series of engagements Dr. Matiang’i has been conducting with political allies, opinion leaders, and grassroots mobilisers.
The aim is to lay the groundwork for an organized and issue-based campaign that reflects national priorities.
On May 2, 2025, during a public rally at Gusii Stadium, he formally announced his decision to contest for the presidency in the 2027 elections.
“I have heard you, and I have listened carefully. After long reflection and many conversations with Kenyans from all walks of life, I have decided to offer myself for the leadership of this nation,” Matiang’i told the crowd during the Gusii Stadium rally.
His entry into the 2027 race adds a new dimension to the emerging political landscape, particularly within the opposition.
With a background in education reform and internal security, Matiang’i is expected to frame his campaign around governance, service delivery, institutional accountability, and national cohesion.
Since exiting public office, he has intensified his political outreach through public forums, strategic meetings, and regional tours.
Observers see these moves as part of a calculated plan to build a broad-based coalition in preparation for a serious presidential bid.
In the coming months, Dr. Matiang’i is expected to expand his engagements across the country, meeting with stakeholders in business, youth, religious institutions, and civil society.
His message continues to focus on restoring public trust in leadership, strengthening institutions, and promoting unity in the run-up to the 2027 elections.
