Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has turned to government development projects to rally support for the ruling United Democratic Alliance candidate in the forthcoming Mbeere North parliamentary by-election.

The by-election, set for November 27, follows the appointment of former MP Geoffrey Ruku as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development.

He replaced Justin Muturi in President William Ruto’s Cabinet.

UDA settled on Leo Muriuki Muthende as Ruku's replacement.

Addressing thousands of grassroots women in Mbeere North Constituency, Embu county, Kindiki dismissed the opposition as purveyors of “empty rhetoric” and “backward politics” with no track record of development.

“The opposition has nothing to offer. They have no roads, no schools, no hospitals, and no development to show. Let us focus on the government of the day because that is where development comes from,” he said.

The Deputy President listed several projects under implementation in the constituency, including roads, rural electrification, modern markets, agricultural productivity programmes, water supply and youth job creation initiatives.

He said these investments were already transforming lives and would continue under a UDA leadership.

“The government has made tremendous progress in the implementation of development projects in Mbeere North constituency, ranging from agricultural productivity programmes, construction of markets, job creation initiatives for the youth, rural electrification, water and roads projects,” he added.

Kindiki expressed confidence that Muthende would clinch the seat, describing him as the right person to carry forward the development agenda started by Ruku.

“We are on progress and I believe this time round, God willing, we will win the seat,” he said.

The DP revealed that eight other aspirants from UDA had stepped aside in favour of Muthende to avoid splitting the party’s support base.

“We had eight other candidates who were all qualified, but they agreed to support our candidate Leo because they didn’t want to risk splitting the support and end up losing,” he explained.

Kindiki lauded women for their steadfast backing of UDA and their contribution to the local economy, saying they remain the party’s most dependable supporters.

“You can bank on the support of women. Once they commit to a cause, they will stick to it. They are the most loyal supporters of UDA and we remain strong here because of them,” he said.

“They run households and still find the energy to hustle in business, agricultural production and other activities just like everyone else. They keep promises and are dependable once they commit themselves to a course.”

The meeting was attended by Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and other leaders.
