A majority of Kenyans are likely to vote, despite most of
them saying they lack confidence in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission,
a new survey by Tifa has said.
In the survey, at least 94 per cent of respondents who have
confidence in the IBC said they will take part in the elections.
This is followed by those who have little confidence in the
electoral body at 84 per cent.
It further highlights that at least 70 per cent of Kenyans
who are not confident in the IEBC will participate in the general election,
while another 70 per cent who have zero confidence in the electoral agency also
confirmed their intentions to vote in the general elections.
“There is a striking difference in the expressed intention
to vote in the next general elections between those who are “very confident”
that they will be “free and fair” as opposed to those who are either “not
confident at all” about this or are “not sure” about it (94% vs. 70% for both
of the latter groups),” Tifa stated.
The survey was conducted from August 23, 2025, to September
3, 2025, using telephonic interviews conducted in Kiswahili (mainly) and
English.
The 2,024 respondents’ contacts were collected through
face-to-face (i.e., household-based interviews).
It has a margin of error of +/-2.17%.
The survey covered nine zones, including Central Rift, Coast,
Lower Eastern, Mt Kenya, Nairobi, Northern, Nyanza, South Rift and Western.
