Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has challenged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to prove its capacity ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Barasa said the upcoming by-elections will demonstrate the commission’s readiness to conduct the general polls in 2027.

“The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commision has a litmus test on November 27, 2025 to ensure the by elections are successful. This will show if they are ready for 2027 or not,” Barasa said.

Barasa was speaking when he attended the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party 20 years celebrations Kisii Chapter at Gusii stadium.

He added that the party is firm amidst the ongoing row with the Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera faction.

“ODM is firm in Kakamega under my leadership as the Chairperson, Nelson Majimbo as the Vice Chairperson, Butere MP Tindi Mwale is our organizing secretary and many other officials,” he said.

This, as the Nabwera faction was notably missing at the event that hosted the party’s leadership led by Deputy Party leaders Simba Arati, Abdulswamad Nassir, Godfrey Osotsi, Chairperson Gladys Wanga among others.

On his part, Kisii Governor Simba Arati reiterated that the party remains vibrant and active in the county.

“All of you can see that the party is still strong, this event has been attended by all delegates from the nine constituencies. ODM will sweep all seats from MCA to Governor here in Kisii,” Arati said.

The event was also attended by Governors Ochillo Ayacko (Migori), Senator Ledama Ole Kina (Narok), MPs from Nyanza and coastal regions.
