Woman murdered, body dumped on a footpath in Bungoma

An elderly woman was found murdered and her body abandoned on a footpath in Bumula, Bungoma County.

Police said they are investigating to establish if the victim was sexually assaulted before her body was abandoned in the swampy area in South Bukusu village.

The motive of the murder was not established.

The victim was identified as Marceline Nasambu Wambuti, 80, who has been living alone in the area. She had not been seen for two days before her body was found on October 9, 2025.

Police were called to the scene and moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

No arrest had been made in connection with the murder, police said.

Western Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud said they are investigating the murder.

Elsewhere in Rigoma, Nyamira County, one Nyakundi Mwamba, 60, was found dead and his body abandoned on a footpath.

The deceased’s eyes had been gouged out by the assailants. His face was bloody, indicating he was hit by blunt objects, leading to the death.

The motive of the murder is yet to be known, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Detectives in the area are investigating the motive and those behind the same.

And police in Embu are investigating an incident where a worker died after falling from the third floor of a building under construction.

Police said Peter Mugendi, 22, was among the workers at the site and was busy when he slipped and fell off, landing headfirst.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.

Police said they are investigating the latest such incident in the construction industry.

The team of police who visited the scene said they suspect the gunmen were out to avenge the killing of one of their own last year.
