Police in Kakamega County have arrested a man accused of
killing a three-month-old infant in a grisly attack that has shocked residents
of Kabras village.
Authorities said the baby’s neck had been severed in the
horrific incident, leaving the body in a pool of blood on the bed. The motive
of the killing, which occurred on Monday, remains unclear.
Western Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud confirmed the
arrest, saying the suspect used a slasher to slit the infant’s throat.
“The slasher was recovered at the scene by officers who
responded to the incident. We are yet to establish the motive behind the
attack,” said Mohamud.
Villagers, enraged by the brutal killing, attempted to lynch
the suspect before police intervened and rescued him. He is now in custody as
investigations continue.
According to police, the suspect will be subjected to interrogation
and a psychiatric assessment before further action is taken. Officers at the
scene described it as one of the most disturbing crimes reported in the area in
recent months.
In a separate incident in Kisii County, detectives are
investigating the murder of a 73-year-old woman whose body was discovered in
her kitchen in Birongo village, Keumbu.
The victim, identified as Anne Bosibori Ochenge, was found
lying motionless on her bed long after her death. Police said the elderly woman
had been sleeping in the kitchen, separate from her husband, who later
discovered her lifeless body.
“The husband called for help after noticing she was not
responding. Unfortunately, it was confirmed that she had already died,” police
said. The motive of the killing is yet to be established, and detectives have
launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Meanwhile, in Nyamira Town, police are pursuing a man
accused of fatally assaulting his wife in a domestic dispute.
The victim, Hellen Moraa, succumbed to her injuries two days
after the October 11 incident. Police said she was attacked at her home, and the
suspect fled shortly after.
“The woman died while undergoing treatment. The suspect,
believed to be her husband, is on the run. We are tracking him for
questioning,” said an officer familiar with the case. The body was moved to the
mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Elsewhere in Gatarakwa, Koibatek, Baringo County, police
recovered the decomposed body of Edward Bore, 72, who had been missing for a
week.
His remains were found in a thicket near a quarry in the
Lelgel area. Investigators said it was not immediately clear how he died. The
body was moved to the mortuary as detectives pursue leads into his death.
Police have urged residents to remain calm as investigations
into the series of killings continue.
