Mwala MP and UDA National Organising Secretary Vincent Kawaya has cautioned Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka against being used as a pawn by the Opposition.

Kawaya warned that Kalonzo risks being misled for political convenience rather than genuine leadership intentions.

Speaking in Kilifi during a meeting with the Akamba community, Kawaya claimed that the wider opposition leaders are manipulating Kalonzo.

“They are only using him for convenience, not because they believe he can win,” said Kawaya.

He alleged that the Opposition is fully aware of President William Ruto’s strong political standing and are now turning to Kalonzo as a placeholder figurehead in a bid to remain relevant.

Kawaya also took a swipe at the recent Wiper National Delegates Conference (NDC) held at Uhuru Park, terming it a tribal show rather than a national political event.

“It showed no national support, only ethnic mobilisation. That meeting could as well have been held in Kitui or Makueni,” he said.

He dismissed the NDC as a perception-driven event lacking any meaningful national impact or unifying agenda.

While faulting the Opposition for engaging in what he called “empty politics,” Kawaya contrasted their rallies with the Kenya Kwanza government's focus on development.

He cited ongoing infrastructure projects such as roads, electricity, and water initiatives in Ukambani and the Coast as proof of Ruto’s commitment to uplifting marginalised regions.

“Ukambani too was sidelined, but Ruto is correcting that history by uniting marginalised communities and giving Kamba leaders a seat at the national table,” Kawaya said.

Kawaya’s remarks come at a time when his political star appears to be rising in the Ukambani region.

Just days ago, a section of Kamba elders in Makueni crowned him as an elder.Last week, Kawaya took his grassroots mobilisation to Kalonzo’s political stronghold in Kitui, where he launched a series of boda boda empowerment programmes in Mwingi North, Mwingi Central, and Kitui Rural.

Kawaya insisted the aim was not to fight the Wiper boss but to bring him into government for the benefit of the region.

“We don’t have to fight Kalonzo Musyoka — he is our elder, almost retiring. I am leading government programmes here and I am asking him respectfully; we want to work with you. Leaders like Rigathi Gachagua have already developed their regions. Why should ours remain behind?” he posed.

In Kilifi, he met with the Akamba diaspora during the launch of the Mbaitu Kilifi Association, a new umbrella body aimed at unifying the over 60,000 Kambas residing in the coastal county.

“Mbaitu Kilifi Association is a voice that unites the Akamba people of Kilifi, strengthening their presence and connection with the larger Hustler Nation story,” Kawaya told the crowd gathered at Janja Grounds.

He described the Kamba community in Kilifi as a “voting bloc too big to be ignored” and urged them to remain steadfast in supporting the Kenya Kwanza administration.
