The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, the main suspect in the Kware murders, has been re-arrested.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the DCI termed the reports as false, confirming that Jumaisi — who escaped from lawful custody at Gigiri Police Station in August 2024 — remains at large.

“Our attention has been drawn to information circulating online regarding the re-arrest of Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the grisly Kware murders. We wish to clarify that the information about his re-arrest is false, and Collins Jumaisi remains at large,” the statement read in part.

The DCI reaffirmed that the suspect, wanted for multiple murders in Kware, Embakasi, is still being pursued by detectives and urged members of the public to disregard misleading reports about his capture.

Jumaisi, who was arrested in connection with the brutal killings that shocked Nairobi’s Embakasi area, escaped from custody under unclear circumstances while awaiting transfer to a high-security facility.

His escape sparked a nationwide manhunt and led to the arrest and suspension of several police officers accused of negligence.

In the latest statement, the DCI expressed gratitude to members of the public for their continued cooperation, acknowledging the role of community support in tracking down fugitives.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the members of the public for their invaluable support and cooperation in this ongoing search for Jumaisi. Your willingness to share information and assist in the effort is greatly appreciated,” the DCI said.

The agency reiterated its appeal for information that could help locate Jumaisi, offering a cash reward of Sh1 million to anyone who provides credible leads leading to his arrest.

“The DCI continues to appeal to members of the public with information about his whereabouts to share it with us through our toll-free number 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000,” the statement added.

The directorate assured the public that its detectives remain committed to bringing Jumaisi to justice for the murders that left several families in mourning.

“The DCI remains unwavering in its commitment to apprehending Collins Jumaisi and holding him accountable for the horrific crimes he has committed. This dedication aims to bring justice not only to the victims but also to their families, ensuring they receive the closure they deserve,” the agency stated.

The Kware murders, which involved the brutal killing of several women in late 2023 and early 2024, sparked national outrage and renewed calls for tighter security in informal settlements.

The DCI has urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and continue sharing information that could aid in Jumaisi’s arrest.
