Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera has called for a swift, thorough investigation into the disappearance and subsequent death of Munyuki High School principal Simon Itiaho Shange, whose body was found days after he went missing.

The incident traces back to November 3, 2025, when Shange was reportedly involved in a road accident along the Eldoret–Malaba Highway. Shortly after the crash, he disappeared under unclear circumstances, sparking widespread speculation and anxiety in the community.

What began as a local concern quickly escalated into a politically charged issue as questions mounted over what happened after the accident.

MP Nabwera urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to prioritise the case, citing the growing public concern and the importance of Shange to the education sector in Lugari.

He described the disappearance as alarming, noting that Munyuki High School is one of the constituency’s leading institutions and that the principal had been instrumental in both academic and administrative progress.

“This is not a minor matter. This is a principal of a respected and well-performing school. The family, students, and the entire constituency deserve clarity and quick action,” Nabwera said through his lawyer, Danstan Omari.

The legislator instructed his lawyer to formally engage the DCI and push for a detailed reconstruction of events from the time of the accident. He urged investigators to establish a clear timeline to determine what transpired before the principal disappeared.

As tension in the area continued to rise, Nabwera appealed to residents and political leaders to avoid turning the tragedy into a tool for political gain. He cautioned individuals against using the incident to fuel speculation or create divisions within the constituency.

“Anyone attempting to fuel speculation or drag politics into this matter will face the full force of the law,” he warned, urging unity and cooperation as the search and investigations continued.

Days later, the matter took a grim turn when Shange’s body was discovered floating in the Kipkaren River on Saturday morning. The recovery deepened the community’s anguish and immediately triggered protests.

Residents and students, angered by the circumstances surrounding the principal’s death, stormed Lumakanda Police Station, damaging windowpanes and several vehicles parked within the compound.

Police said the crowd became unruly shortly after the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Officers later dispersed the protesters as investigations shifted to establishing the cause of death. Police indicated that they are examining both drowning and possible foul play, saying no theory has been ruled out.

Western Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud assured residents that justice will be served, emphasising that a team of experts has been assigned to the case.

“We are determined to solve this saga,” Mohamud said, noting that investigators are working to uncover the circumstances leading to the principal’s death.

The community now awaits answers as detectives piece together the final moments of a school leader whose sudden disappearance and tragic death have shaken Lugari.
