Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma speaks to the media after he was attacked in Kasipul on November 27, 2025./FAITH MATETEHoma Bay Town MP Peter George Kaluma and his bodyguard have been attacked at Agoro Sare during the ongoing Kasipul by-election, and his firearm has reportedly been stolen.
Kaluma, who is serving as the ODM Party’s chief agent in the by-election, was on Thursday assaulted by a group of youths at the Agoro Sare Primary School polling station.
The MP has been rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
The MP, who had arrived at the station ahead of ODM candidate Boyd Were Ong’ondo, sustained a head injury during the confrontation.
Kaluma was beaten on the head by youths allegedly supporting an opponent of ODM candidate Boyd Were at Agoro Sare Primary School in Oyugis town.
Eyewitnesses said the fracas started when an Independent candidate, Philip Aroko, arrived at the station to check on the progress of the exercise after casting his vote in Kachieng Primary School in East Kamagak Ward.
"Some youths confronted MP Kaluma, asking what he was doing there because he is not a voter in the Kasipul constituency. They pushed and assaulted him on the back of his head," an eyewitness said.

Witnesses said the rowdy group confronted the legislator, who arrived in the company of one of the aspirants. The motive of the attack remains unclear, but security officers intervened to restore order.
Following the incident, Boyd Were urged Kasipul voters not to be intimidated.
He appealed to constituents to remain calm and exercise their democratic right by turning out to elect their next MP.
Aroko and Were are front runners in the by-election.

Homa Bay County police commander Lawrence Koilem said they are pursuing youths who assaulted the legislator and ran away with a gun from his bodyguard.
"We're taking the matter very seriously and looking for the suspects after they disappeared. There should be peace," Koilem said.
The police officer urged residents to vote and leave their polling stations. Some residents are reportedly hovering around polling stations after voting in disguise of protecting their votes.
"The issue of casting vote and hoping from one station to another should stop. We want people to vote and go home because police are the only people allowed to provide security," he added.
