Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday held a strategic consultative meeting with the leadership of the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services at Nyayo House in Nairobi.

The meeting, attended by Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang and heads of directorates, reviewed progress on ongoing reforms aimed at improving service delivery, digitisation, and efficiency in citizen-facing government services.

In his remarks, Murkomen underscored the importance of continuous collaboration between oversight leadership and implementing agencies.

"Continuous engagement with departments that provide direct services to citizens remains essential in strengthening policy oversight and ensuring efficient service delivery,” he said.

The discussions focused on tracking the implementation of agreed deliverables from previous engagements and identifying bottlenecks affecting service delivery across immigration and civil registration systems.

A key highlight of the meeting was progress in decentralising passport issuance services, with plans to extend physical application and collection centres to Kilifi County, alongside existing locations.

The department also reported major gains in digital transformation, particularly through the e-Citizen platform, which continues to streamline access to government services and reduce bureaucratic delays.

"Kenyans can now download and print birth certificates online,” he said, noting that the reform is aimed at improving accessibility and reducing turnaround times for essential documentation.

The meeting further reviewed enhancements to consular services for Kenyans living abroad, including efforts to equip diplomatic missions and improve responsiveness in emergency and documentation support.

“As we begin the new Financial Year, we remain committed to supporting reforms and innovations that enhance service delivery, improve citizen experience, and ensure government services are accessible, efficient, and responsive to the needs of all Kenyans.”

The ministry indicated that ongoing reforms are aligned with broader efforts to digitise government services, enhance transparency, and ensure citizens receive faster, more reliable public services across the country.
