Commuters stranded as police seal off Waiyaki Way section on Gen Z protest anniversary

Transport was disrupted along Waiyaki Way at 87 Junction on Thursday as Kenya marked the second anniversary of the June 25, 2024, Gen Z-led anti-Finance Bill protests.

A police roadblock was mounted on the highway, blocking vehicles travelling from the Limuru direction toward Nairobi, as of 6 am.

Many commuters who had left home early for work were stranded as public transport services remained scarce in the area.

A heavy police presence was also observed, with officers maintaining heightened vigilance ahead of anticipated demonstrations in several towns across the country.
