Several Senate and National Assembly committees that were scheduled to sit on Thursday morning have been rescheduled to a later date, with reports indicating that the afternoon House session could also be adjourned.
MPs say they have been informed of the rescheduled sessions. Among the affected committees is the National Assembly's Special Funds Account Committee, which was set to consider the Auditor-General's report on the Judiciary Fund.
"This meeting has been rescheduled to a later date. Sorry for the inconvenience," journalists covering the committee were informed early Thursday morning.
The decision to suspend parliamentary business is said to have been informed by disruptions caused by the police blockade, with several staff members unable to report to work on time.
MPs affiliated with the Opposition are also said to have been apprehensive amid fears of being targeted for arrest if they showed up.
United Alternative Government leaders led by Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka have announced plans to lay wreaths at the gates of Parliament in memory of those who died two years ago when Gen Z protesters breached the August House during the now-famous anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests.
In Nairobi CBD, most businesses remain closed, with heavily armed police officers patrolling streets in the city centre.
At the GPO roundabout, police have mounted a roadblock where motorists and pedestrians are being turned away. Only a few people are accessing the CBD, with matatus largely staying off the roads.
