A report by County Governments Budget Implementation Review Report by the Office of the Controller of Budget (May 2025) has highlighted the top 10 counties in generating their own revenue during the first nine months of the 2024/25 financial year (July 2024 to March 2025).
Nairobi leads significantly with Sh9.9 billion, followed by Narok at Sh4.9 billion and Kiambu with Sh3.3 billion. Mombasa and Nakuru also feature prominently with Sh3.2 billion and Sh2.5 billion, respectively.
Collectively, county governments generated Sh45.91 billion from their own sources, representing 53% of the annual target of Sh87.11 billion.
