In Summary

Nestled in Embu County, Mwea National Reserve is a hidden gem offering unmatched tranquility and wilderness. Gazetted in 1975 and covering 42 square kilometers, it sits at an altitude of 3,000 to 5,000 feet and lies 180km from Nairobi.

The reserve is the only protected area where the globally threatened and Kenya-endemic Hinde’s babbler is found. It features seasonal rivers, baobab trees, rich birdlife, and a thriving hippopotamus population.

Visitors can enjoy pristine landscapes, rare species like Pel’s fishing owl, and a peaceful escape into nature.

Mwea is a must-visit for those seeking both biodiversity and serenity.
