The Energy and Petroleum Regulation Authority (EPRA) on Thursday convened over 300 industry leaders at the National Stakeholders Conference to launch the Alliance for Safety (A4S) under the Kaa Safe Mtaani campaign

The groundbreaking coalition brings together key players in the energy and petroleum sector to drive a nationwide culture of safety, responsibility, and compliance.

"Today, we convene with a shared purpose - to deliberate, strategise and solidify our collective efforts in advancing safety within our communities through the Kaa Safe Mtaani campaign phase II. This initiative is not just another awareness drive; it is a call to action, a movement that seeks to embed a culture of safety, responsibility, and compliance in how we handle LPG, electricity, and petroleum products," EPRA DG Daniel Kiproo said.

With the number of electrical accidents rising to 153 cases as of June 2024 and continued risks in handling LPG and petroleum, the urgency for collaborative action has never been greater.

The corporation noted that while petroleum accidents have reduced significantly,  it remains a serious threat to the country as over 60% of Kenyans lack a proper understanding when handling petroleum and electricity-related appliances.

The chief guests at the event were CS Opiyo Wandayi, Energy PS Alex Wachira, Petroleum PS Mohamed Liban, and Senator Boni Khalwale.

Others present were Kenya Power MD Joe Sang and DPP Renson Igonga.

During the event, Epra called upon all stakeholders to integrate safety messages into policies, business operations, and daily practices.

"This conference marks a pivotal moment in shaping policies, awareness, and industry partnerships to ensure a safer, more resilient energy ecosystem for all Kenyans," Epra said in a statement on X.

"Let’s make energy safety a shared responsibility."
