A Chinese national was on Monday robbed of Sh1.4 million
cash in broad daylight at Athi River, Machakos County.
Xin Xin was robbed of the money she had reportedly withdrawn
from a bank located in Kitengela Town while aboard a cab along Namanga Road
near Shalom Community Hospital on Monday.
Police said the matter was reported to Athi River Police
Station by one James Bosire Rosana, a Bolt driver whose car the victim had
boarded from Kitengela Town before the incident.
The report was filed at 4:30 pm.
“It was reported by one James Bosire Rosana, who is a Bolt
driver of a motor vehicle, purple in color, that he was requested by a
customer, a Chinese national namely Xin Xin, who by the driver’s GPRS report
was at Kitengela Mall. He immediately proceeded to the said location and
collected the client, who told him to drive her to Lukenya Park C within Athi
River where she works at Seven Sunday Manufacturing as a financial controller,”
a police report seen by the Star read in part.
They proceeded via Namanga Road and on reaching the Shalom
interchange, located about 4 km north of Athi River Police Station, Rosana saw
a motor vehicle, a CX5 Mazda, blue in color, approaching and overtaking him
before blocking his car from the front.
Police said two people, according to Rosana, alighted from
the said motor vehicle and identified themselves as police officers, even
though they were in civilian attire.
Rosana reported that
one of the men then opened the driver’s door, forced him out of the cab, and
escorted him to the suspect motor vehicle.
They drove towards the Sunset Boulevard area along Crystal
Rivers and abandoned him on the roadside before driving off towards an unknown
destination.
“Later, he stood up and realized that they hadn’t stolen his
phone. He called his client to find her position, whereby he was told to go to
the said Lukenya Park C to find her. Upon reaching his client’s company, he was
shocked to learn that the said suspect had been robbed of Kenya Shillings 1.4
million in cash, which she had withdrawn from a bank in Kitengela as petty cash
to run the company,” police stated in the report.
Officers from Athi River Police Station, alongside
Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives, visited the scene and
confirmed the incident.
The DCI sleuths attached to the station have since launched
investigations.
No suspect had been arrested by press time.
The incident happened a day after a break-in and stealing
incident was reported in the neighboring Syokimau estate within Mlolongo
division on Sunday.
Police said a man reported to the Syokimau Police Station
that his house at Sun Park Estate along Chardy Road was broken into and his
property stolen while he was away.
He reported the incident through a phone call at 5:00 pm on
Sunday.
“The man reported that today, the 28th September 2025, he
left his house F34 at around 10:34 am to Parklands on some errands and returned
at 5:30 pm the same day and noticed that the grill was opened and that the
thugs had ransacked the house,” a police report read in part.
Officers from the station responded to the scene and
established that four unknown thieves, two males and two females, had gained
entry into the house at 11:32 am by pulling out the grill and the locking
system of the main door before ransacking three bedrooms.
They stole two laptops and one tablet, whose values are yet
to be established.
The assailants also made away with the victim’s wallet
containing a driving license, bank cards for DTB and Indian banks, and Sh3,000
cash.
The thieves then inscribed the word “VY” on a decoration
card placed on the main door.
Police said the thugs were driving a black Land Cruiser
Prado according to CCTV footage.
The officers processed and documented the scene, and the
OCS, Syokimau Police Station, is investigating the matter.
