Smash potatoes are a popular side dish that has a crispy exterior.
The dish originated as a variation of leftover boiled jacket potatoes.
The technique involves boiling potatoes till tender, smashing them into irregular shapes, and then roasting them to achieve a crunchy finish.
The dish first gained popularity on the social media app Tiktok.
Ingredients:
- Potatoes
- 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Garlic powder
- Mixed herbs
Step 1:
Boil the potatoes without peeling them in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and let cool slightly.
Step 2:
Preheat the Oven Preheat your oven to 180 degrees for five minutes.
Step 3:
Smash the Potatoes On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, place the potatoes and gently smash each one with a fork or the bottom of a glass until flattened but still intact.
Step 4:
Drizzle olive oil over the smashed potatoes and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and any additional seasonings or herbs you like.
Step 5:
Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until crispy and golden brown.
Step 6:
Remove from the oven and enjoy them warm, garnished with more herbs if desired.
