SARA Mose will spearhead Kenya’s charge in swimming at the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar, Senegal.

The Poland-based will compete alongside the United Kingdom-based Imara Bella Thorpe in the girls’ category, while Haniel Kudwoli and Stephen Ndegwa will hunt for honours in the boys’ division.

The quartet represented the country at the World Long Course Championships in Singapore between July 11 and August 3 and the World Short Course event in Budapest, Hungary, in December last year.

Kenya Aquatics technical director Omar Omari said early preparation, funding and early arrival at championships will be key going forward.

“My takeaways from the Singapore World Championship is that our swimmers need to arrive a week or 10 days to a championship to ensure they acclimatise to conditions in the host countries,” observed Omari.

“This will call for improved funding, especially from the government.”

Thorpe was the country’s best performer at position 40 overall in the 100m freestyle contest, clocking 57.46 Omari noted that the experience gained at the two world championships will help the swimmers deliver medals as the Youth Olympics is held in Africa for the first time.

“The experience they have gained from the events will be key,” noted Omari
