The 30-minute maintenance set for 1am to 1:30am will temporarily affect M-Pesa services, which will be intermittent during this period.

However, all other services, including calls, data, and SMS, will remain available without interruption, Safaricom said in a notice.

"We are continuously innovating and enhancing our services to connect our customers with endless possibilities," it said

"To meet our promise to always offer reliable, Safe, Secure and a Superior customer experience."

Safaricom has strategically scheduled the update during off-peak hours to minimise inconvenience.

It has also apologised for any disruption that might be caused as it appreciated its customers' continued trust and support.

M-Pesa is celebrating 18 years this year since it was launched on March 6, 2007.

It started as a domestic mobile money platform in 2007, giving millions of unbanked Kenyans access to financial services.

Fast-forward today, the service has evolved into a financial powerhouse, extending its reach far beyond Kenya's borders.

Initially met with skepticism, its ease of use and convenience quickly won over users.

A month after the launch, M-Pesa had 19,671 mobile active users.

In November of that year, the numbers had ballooned to an unprecedented 1,041,522 active M-Pesa users.

According to Safari CEO, the company is currently a $1bn (Sh130 billion) business and has more than 34 million customers who transact with it on a regular basis.

"It was set up to solve the problem of sending money but it has evolved into credit and even investment," he said.
