Security teams that responded to an al Shabaab attack on a camp in Fafi, Garissa, that left six police reservists dead recovered two bodies of the attackers.

The team also rescued one suspect who had serious wounds following a clash with the police reservists at the Biyamadhow area.

There are reports that more militants escaped with serious wounds.

A response team continued pacification of the area following claims some victims from the Kenyan side were missing.

There were claims the attackers kidnapped some victims and left for Somalia.

They also commandeered a vehicle carrying mourners as they escaped, using it to flee. Officials said no injuries were reported among the mourners.

At least six people were killed after al Shabaab militants overran a national police reserve camp in Fafi, Garissa County.

Police said four others sustained serious injuries in the attack, which occurred at about 5 a.m. in the Biyamadhow area.

It is suspected the attackers ransacked the camp and escaped with an unknown number of weapons.

They shot some victims and stabbed others during the March 23 attack.

There are fears of more attacks after militants were spotted mobilizing and moving toward Kenya.

The area, near the porous Kenya-Somalia border, is frequently breached by militants.

Locals have reported seeing the militants roaming, probing, and spying on security camps.

Police said multi-agency teams had been dispatched to pursue the gangs planning more attacks.

National Police Service spokesman Michael Muchiri said they are intensifying efforts to address the persistent menace.

“More personnel have been deployed to confront the enemy,” he said.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to a local mortuary, while the injured were taken to hospital.

Additional personnel have been sent to Mandera, where intelligence reports indicate militants are planning attacks.

Officials said the militia seeks revenge for their kinsman, who was arrested by Kenyan security for terrorism offences.

The militia also plans more kidnappings of Kenyans, prompting security officials to enhance border security.

Mandera has been a centre of interest in recent weeks after rogue security officials from Somalia shot and killed a police officer over the same issue.

The terrorists have repeatedly attacked the area, affecting development.

Security agents have mounted operations to contain terror-related attacks, leading to a general reduction in such incidents.

The incidents occurred as the U.S. embassy in Nairobi issued a new travel advisory to its citizens in Kenya.

Americans have been warned against travelling to Kenya-Somalia border counties, including Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Tana River, and coastal areas north of Malindi.

Kenyan authorities are yet to respond to the advisory.

The embassy cited security risks, including crime, civil unrest, terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.
