Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dared the government to arrest him if he has committed a crime punishable by law.

Addressing the press Monday in Karen, Nairobi, Gachagua appeared to respond to separate statements by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen suggesting that he is untouchable and would be arrested over his alleged inciting remarks.

He said neither he nor his supporters would be cowed or intimidated by the use of the criminal justice system.

“If the government knows that I have committed a crime known under the laws of Kenya and identified within the penal code, they know where my home is...and, I am here, they know my wamunyoro home,” he said.

“The drama of waylaying us on the roads should stop.”

He said security officers should instead go after him at the home and take the necessary action.

Gachagua at the same time stated that he has not been summoned and that should there be any summons, he would honor it.

The ex-DP on Sunday evening allegedly went into hiding after learning of plans to arrest him.

Kindiki and Murkomen had earlier given warnings of plans to arrest and question him over alleged incitement remarks he had made earlier about the 2027 general elections.

“We will put you in jail, and there’s nothing you’ll do about it,” Murkomen said while condemning what he termed as a reckless, tribal-driven political agenda threatening national unity. "

You better choose peace, because this country must have peace. We won't allow anyone to burn it down," he warned.

Gachagua evaded a police dragnet in Muranga and drove towards his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri as police pursued him.

Officials aware of the operations said they did not find him during the night.

One of his lawyers, Ndegwa Njiru, said Sunday police had laid a siege on his homes.

“To all media houses, kindly be informed that the DCI has taken hostage of all HE Rigathi Gachagua’s both at Karen and at Wamunyoro. They are currently man-hunting him. We are yet to be informed of the reasons,” he said in a post Sunday night.
