Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has condoled with the families affected by the Kisumu Road crash that has claimed 25 lives, describing the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy and a sobering reminder of the need for vigilance on the roads.

He said the loss of even a single life is one too many, and the magnitude of this accident is deeply distressing.

In his message on Friday evening, Gachagua expressed his family’s deepest sympathies to the bereaved, acknowledging the pain and devastation that such a sudden loss brings.

"I am deeply pained by the Kisumu Road crash that has claimed 25 innocent lives today. One life lost is one too many. My family and I send our deepest sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones in this horrific crash," Gachagua stated.

The former DP also appealed to all road users to exercise maximum care, patience, and responsibility, stressing that road safety is a shared duty that must never be taken lightly.

"I urge all road users to exercise maximum care on the roads. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We must all be safe on our roads for one another," he concluded.

At least 21 people were confirmed dead following the tragic road accident involving a bus owned by AIC Naki High School at the Coptic Roundabout in Kisumu on Friday evening.

Authorities clarified that the vehicle was not carrying students at the time of the crash.

According to Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Peter Maina, the bus was travelling from Kakamega towards Kisumu when the accident occurred at around 5 p.m.

“The driver appears to have lost control of the vehicle as it approached the Coptic Roundabout, crossed over to the opposite lane heading back to Kakamega, and plunged into a ditch,” said Maina.

President William Ruto has since voiced his grief, urging traffic authorities to move swiftly and hold those responsible accountable.

In a statement, Ruto sent his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the crash and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

“Our prayers are with the victims of the terrible accident…May the Almighty give strength to the families to bear with the loss,” he said.
